Cherokee County issues seven-day burn ban
['Staff Reports']
Tyler Morning Telegraph
Cherokee County issued a seven-day burn ban on Thursday as fire potential increases in the region.
Cherokee County Judge Chris Davis issued a countywide burn ban due to extreme drought conditions and high temperatures.
The ban affects Cherokee County including all of the City of Troup, which impacts the portion of the city inside Smith County even though Smith County does not formally have a burn ban in place.
“Weather forecasters offer little promise of a change in dry conditions in the near future and these dry conditions pose threat of large, dangerous and fast moving wildfires,” Davis said in the burn ban ordinance.
