Teen killed in Smith County crash identified as incoming Chapel Hill senior

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, around 9p.m., a 17-year-old driver was in an SUV was going northbound on FM 2908, approaching a stop sign at the intersection of FM 2908 and FM 2767.
A pickup truck was traveling westbound on FM 2767, nearing the same intersection.
The SUV driver failed to stop at the stop sign and the pickup crashed into the right side of the SUV.
The SUV passenger, who was identified as Gustavo Arellanes, 17, of Tyler, died at the scene, according to DPS.
Chapel Hill ISD confirmed Arellanes was an incoming Chapel Hill High School senior as a member of the Class of 2027.
