Week 1 of the latest saga in the strange, morally complicated story of Dr Philip Polkinghorne was not exactly a non-event but there was a sense of waiting for something to happen that didn’t happen, that the only new development is going to happen in Week 2, when the story will finally be told by the saga’s smallest man and largest character: Dr Philip Polkinghorne. Polkinghorne is set to give evidence, probably this coming Tuesday at the coronial inquest into the death of his wife Pauline Hanna. It seeks to establish the cause of Pauline’s death at her Ōrākei home on April 5, 2021, when Polkinghorne called 111 and said, “She’s blue! Not only was I devastated at Pauline’s death but what I was told on that day I did not believe. She shared the frame next to that small man with main-character energy, Dr Philip Polkinghorne.
