At each stop, Dr. Kokofu argued that the NPP needed to rebuild trust at the grassroots to be competitive in the 2028 general election. Dr. Kokofu, a former chief executive of the Environmental Protection Agency and former member of Parliament for Bantama, set out proposals he said would strengthen the party’s organisation. These include building a membership database, strengthening internal party and security structures, and directing more resources to the youth and women’s wings to support grassroots mobilisation. Dr. Kokofu called on party members not to let the internal chairmanship contest cause lasting division, saying members should unite behind flagbearer Mahamudu Bawumia regardless of who wins the regional race. The Ashanti Regional Chairmanship race is ongoing, with delegates expected to vote in the coming months.
