Trump Revives Push to Restrict Birthright Citizenship and Crack Down on 'Birth Tourism'

President Donald Trump signed two executive orders Thursday narrowing eligibility for birthright citizenship and banning visas tied to so-called "birth tourism," reviving an immigration fight the Supreme Court rejected in June, White House officials said.
That earlier measure sought to deny automatic citizenship broadly to children of noncitizens; this version is narrower, citing exceptions the court itself acknowledged.
The second order, administration officials said, directs federal agencies to tighten visa screening aimed at commercial birth tourism operators.
The second order delegates presidential authority to the secretaries of State and Homeland Security to halt birth tourism.
The order also allows the government to revoke citizenship obtained through fraud, applying the exception to mothers who deceptively engage in commercial birth tourism.
