Jim Toman, who coached college baseball for more than three decades, including nine seasons as Liberty University's head coach, died Tuesday after a battle with brain cancer.
His death was confirmed by North Carolina State University, his alma mater, in a news release, and was later acknowledged by South Carolina baseball and former colleagues across the sport.
The Liberty YearsToman became Liberty's head coach in 2008, the program's sixth in its history.
In 2014, Liberty went 41-18, won the Big South North Division and earned an at-large NCAA tournament bid, a season that earned Toman Big South Coach of the Year honors.
Middle Tennessee State and Later CareerAfter two seasons as associate head coach at Charleston Southern, Toman was named head coach at Middle Tennessee State in 2018, a position he held through four seasons.
