Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has ordered all 1,260 Malaysia Airlines pilots to undergo compulsory drug tests after one of its pilots was arrested in Indonesia after allegedly trying to smuggle over 26kg of MDMA (methamphetamine) into Jakarta.
According to Soekarno-Hatta Customs Office chief Hengky Tomuan Parlindungan Aritonang, the suspect allegedly carried a concealed vial of clean urine in an attempt to evade drug screening.
"Operational safety and crew fitness for duty are non-negotiable at MAG," MAG President and Group CEO Capt.
"We take any breach of our safety standards seriously and have acted swiftly to enhance mandatory drug screening across our active pilots.
Following the initial pilot screening of the airline's pilots, MAG said it will make drug testing a mandatory requirement for all active pilots at its airlines before expanding it to cabin crew.
