She said her client had been struggling with mental health issues and substance use, and told the sheriff that social work supervision would help him. Ms Spencer added: “He has various issues and social work may be of assistance to him in relation to his mental health and potential substance misuse. “His mental health has declined and his substance use has increased since he became unemployed. “A restriction of liberty order may not assist with the mental health and addiction issues that have been ongoing in his life. He will be under the supervision of social work for one year and must complete 100 hours of unpaid work within six months.
