Prices of 20 essential commodities move up as inflation in Pakistan surges

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s weekly inflation increased by 0.28 percent during the first week of August in the 2026-27 fiscal year, reversing the decline recorded in the previous week, according to the latest weekly report released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
During the week under review, prices of 20 essential commodities increased, while nine items became cheaper and 22 remained unchanged.
Items that recorded price decreasesMeanwhile, the prices of several commodities declined during the week.
According to the PBS, inflation based on the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) increased across all income groups on a weekly basis.
The lowest-income households, earning up to Rs17,732 per month, recorded an annual inflation rate of 9.51%, while households earning above Rs44,176 per month faced annual inflation of 9.0%.
