The events will be hosted by Newport City Council in partnership with conservation organisation Glo I Natur on Gaer Hill Fort, known locally as The Gollers. The following day, a 'Bioblitz' will be held from 10am to 4pm where experts and the public collaborate to record and explore the wildlife on Gaer Hill. Both events are free of charge and offer a chance to engage with the local wildlife community. Newport Council’s local nature coordinator Steve Dixon said: “This is a great opportunity to explore and learn about a largely undiscovered location in the city.” Despite the dry summer, organisers are hopeful of discovering interesting species on Gaer Hill.
