Crews from High Wycombe, Beaconsfield and Thame were called to the southbound carriageway between Junctions 5 and 4 just before 11.30 on August 5, following multiple reports.
Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze involved a small car and had spread to a nearby hedgerow.
Two officers also attended the incident, while National Highways closed the hard shoulder and one lane of the motorway to allow firefighters to work safely.
Crews used a hose reel jet and breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.
No injuries were reported, but the vehicle in question was ‘100 per cent destroyed’ by the blaze.
