Chinese wind turbine manufacturer Ming Yang Smart Energy is aiming to break into the Nordic offshore wind market by supplying turbines for two major Danish offshore wind farms to be developed by Swedish energy company Vattenfall.
The projects, recently awarded to Vattenfall by the Danish Energy Agency, are part of Denmark’s continued expansion of offshore renewable energy.
However, the prospect of using a Chinese supplier has sparked political debate in Denmark.
A contract would mark a significant breakthrough for Ming Yang in Northern Europe, where offshore wind has traditionally been dominated by European manufacturers such as Denmark’s Vestas and Siemens Gamesa.
The outcome is expected to be closely watched across Europe’s wind industry as Chinese manufacturers seek a larger role in the continent’s renewable energy transition.
