Taking place at the Far East Prisoner of War (FEPOW) Memorial on Marine Parade, it begins at 11am on Saturday, August 15, and commemorates Victory over Japan Day—the day in 1945 when Imperial Japan surrendered, marking the end of the Second World War. Many men from the borough served in the Far East, giving the day special meaning for the community. Borough mayor Jade Martin, who will lay a wreath and deliver a reading during the service, said: "VJ Day is such an important moment for our community to come together to honour the Far East Prisoners of war, and all those in our armed forces who sacrificed so much in the pursuit of peace. "I really hope people from across our borough will join us at the annual service as we reflect on the price paid for the freedoms we have today." The service will be led by Rev Canon Simon Ward, Rector of Great Yarmouth, with Pauline Simpson, Chaplain of the National Far East Prisoner of War Association, leading the Act of Remembrance.
