About 2 p.m. Thursday, Chicago Police Department officers assigned to the fourth district responded to the South Chicago Chapel funeral home, at 2939 E. 95th St. in the South Deering neighborhood, to help the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation with a license investigation. In a news release Thursday, the MEO said more than 50 bodies were found on the property "in various states of decomposition." As of Friday morning, MEO investigators and forensic pathologists were still assessing the conditions of the remains and searching for documentation and death certificates. A woman at the scene Thursday told NBC Chicago she came to the funeral home looking for her husband's body, which was supposed to arrive at a viewing earlier in the day. No further details about the the South Chicago Chapel funeral home were released.
