Amaravati: To power its growing economy and meet rising electricity demand, Andhra Pradesh has approved the procurement of 1,600 MW of coal-based thermal power through competitive bidding. The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) has granted in-principle approval to the State’s power distribution companies (DISCOMs) to initiate the bidding process for long-term procurement of thermal power. The move opens a significant opportunity for power developers seeking long-term supply contracts in Andhra Pradesh. First step in a larger thermal expansionThe proposed 1,600 MW procurement forms the first phase of the State’s long-term thermal power expansion programme.
