Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Friday made a startling observation against senior IAS officer and Finance Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, IAS, saying that if punishment were imposed in all the contempt cases pending against him, ‘he would have to spend his lifetime in jail.’ ‘Officials are facing contempt due to govt’s failures’During the hearing, Justice Bheemapaka observed that the High Court does not take pleasure in summoning senior government officials. He noted that Sultania has been facing several contempt petitions dating back to his tenure as Finance Secretary. “The government’s lapses are forcing officials to face contempt proceedings,” the judge remarked, adding that if punishment were awarded in all the pending contempt cases against Sultania, he would have to spend the rest of his life in jail. Accepting the submission, the High Court adjourned the case to August 19 for further hearing.
