Housing association Clarion Housing Group has secured planning permission for a 249-home social rented scheme in Mitcham town centre in south London. The Majestic Way scheme forms part of the wider £2bn Merton Regeneration programme, which will provide 2,800 homes. Clarion’s proposals also include around 4,300 sq ft of community and retail spaces, and the company has committed around £60,000 to support town centre projects while the scheme is being developed. Cook added: “This is about investing in Mitcham’s high street as much as it is about new homes. Last month, Clarion agreed to forward-purchase 136 affordable homes in Camden, north London, being developed by Arada London, part of UAE developer Arada, and make them available for social rents.
