Food businesses, care providers, nurseries and community organisations across Leigh, Atherton, Tyldesley, Lowton, Hindley and Ashton-in-Makerfield are celebrating after receiving the highest possible food hygiene rating. A total of 12 establishments in the area have been awarded five-star ratings under the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, which is run by the Food Standards Agency in partnership with local authorities. A rating of five means hygiene standards are considered "very good", the highest score available. The scale ranges from 0, meaning urgent improvement is necessary, to 5, meaning hygiene standards are very good. However, the score reflects hygiene standards at the time of inspection and is not a measure of food quality, customer service or value for money.
