William Orbit, the electronic musician-turned-sought-after producer for the likes of Madonna and Blur, has died. “William passed away at home on 23rd July 2026,” Orbit’s family wrote in a statement posted to his Instagram. Born William Wainwright in north London in 1956, Orbit dropped out of school when he was 16 and ended up crashing in a squat house. Orbit and Madonna first crossed paths in the early ’90s, when he remixed her singles “Erotica” and “Justify My Love.” Orbit released seven studio albums under his own name throughout his career, with the most recent being 2022’s The Painter.
