"Locating these services closer together helps make access routes clearer and supports us to deliver the right care in the right place.
The MIU is staffed by advanced nurse practitioners trained to treat a variety of minor injuries.
Margaret O’Rourke, clinical service manager and lead nurse at Vale of Leven Hospital, said: "We look forward to continuing to care for our patients in this upgraded department.
"The Vale provides excellent care for minor injuries during the day, but for more serious injuries and illnesses, and out of hours, patients may need to be seen in a setting more appropriate for their condition."
Elsewhere in the hospital, the Medical Assessment Unit continues to provide rapid assessments and tests for patients referred by GPs or the Scottish Ambulance Service.
