The Playwright’s Medal was awarded for a submission of up to 2,500 words, including a story outline, character profiles, and three dialogued scenes or a draft of a 30–45-minute play.
Ms Griffiths and Ms Jones, who have been close friends since meeting through the Welsh Society at Cardiff University, dedicated the play to their rugby team and friendship.
A graduate of Cardiff University’s School of Welsh, she works as a script editor on long-running Welsh television series Pobol y Cwm.
They described the play as a tribute to the women of their rugby club and to their friendship.
A wider consortium of Welsh theatre organisations, including Theatr Clwyd, Theatr y Sherman and Theatr Frân Wen, will support the winners with placements, networking, career guidance and complimentary theatre tickets, alongside prize money and a script development commission.
