According to new research published by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), modern slavery remains embedded in workplaces and supply chains, despite the passing of the Modern Slavery Act more than 10 years ago. The research, which polled 1,011 senior decision-makers, found that 70% of organisations had no formal assessment or mapping process for modern slavery risks and 62% no formal commitment to addressing modern slavery and no plans to develop one. Most organisations polled (62%) provided no formal training to help staff identify and respond to modern slavery risks and 44% had no dedicated mechanism for workers to raise concerns about modern slavery. Despite seven in 10 organisations having no formal process for assessing modern slavery risks, just over half said they were confident in their organisation’s ability to identify and manage modern slavery risks in their supply chains. In the UK, official figures show there were 23,411 potential victims of modern slavery identified in 2025, the highestnumber since records began.
