STARKVILLE – When Bob Brzuszek, a retired Mississippi State University landscape architecture professor, finally saw wildflower meadows in bloom this summer at Cornerstone Park, it felt like his dream was one step closer to reality.
The meadow, which spans 10 acres surrounding the park off Highway 25, contains a variety of multicolored wildflowers and is just one of the areas under development for the city’s recently accredited arboretum, Brzuszek said.
The area at Cornerstone Park was recognized as a Level I arboretum earlier this year, Brzuszek said.
The Cornerstone Park arboretum’s designation made it only the second accredited arboretum in the state, ArbNet’s website said.
That continued development, as it’s addressed, could lead to a higher designation by ArbNet, Brzuzek said, and more tourism to the park as a byproduct, to Cornerstone Park.
