DULUTH — Nearly all of Northeastern Minnesota is in a severe drought, and the dry conditions could persist into fall, raising concerns of a lengthy wildfire season. The latest U.S. Drought Monitor map, released Thursday, July 30, showed nearly 90% of the state is experiencing some level of drought, with more than a third of the state — mostly spanning from North Central Minnesota to Lake Superior — in the “severe drought” category. Northwestern Wisconsin is also in a moderate to severe drought. According to the National Drought Information System, one of the significant impacts of severe drought is very low water flow in rivers.
