Victor 'Vic' Chilton, a 79-year-old from Lewes, completed a 650-mile ride from Bilbao to Saint-Malo to raise funds for humanitarian aid and ambulances in Ukraine, raising more than £3,000 through his efforts. The 1,000-kilometre journey took him through the Basque Country, along France’s Atlantic coast, and involved more than 26,000 feet of climbing. "At one point, I even had to walk my bicycle across a long, high bridge in powerful buffeting winds. A particularly moving stop was Guernica, the Basque town devastated by aerial bombing during the Spanish Civil War in 1937. The retired IT manager and environmental campaigner started his journey in Bilbao on July 11, riding an electrically assisted bicycle.
