The two deaths that occurred following contact with Sussex Police were listed as one apparent suicide and the other classed as 'other deaths following police contact.'
Detective Chief Superintendent Miles Ockwell of Sussex Police said: "Every death following contact with the police is a tragedy.
"It is encouraging that the report acknowledges there have been no deaths following police contact in relation to road traffic collisions, accidents, fatal police shootings and or while in or following police custody."
While deaths during or following police contact remain rare, we must not loose sight of the devastating human impact of every single one.
IOPC issued 66 recommendations in 2025, a third of which were the direct result of investigations and reviews into deaths during or following police contact.
