By Alexandra NoadLocal Journalism Initiative ReporterThe Southern Alberta Medical Program (SAMP), along with its home facility located at the University of Lethbridge, were gifted Blackfoot names on June 16, to help set the program off in a good way. Shanda Webber, director of Iniskim Indigenous Relations explains the significance of receiving a Blackfoot name. “I know the SAMP team will hold their new names in high regard and honour our role in their community.” The naming ceremony consisted of elders Francis First Charger and Leroy Little Bear relaying stories from their past, before announcing the Blackfoot names, which will be forever carried by the SAMP program and building at the university.
