Alphabet Inc.'s Waymo co-CEO Dmitri Dolgov warns physical-AI developers against applying Silicon Valley's break-things culture to autonomous cars and robots, where errors can cause irreversible harm.
Dolgov Recasts Silicon Valley's AI MantraSpeaking at a Y Combinator interview released on Monday, Dolgov said the technology industry's familiar approach becomes unacceptable once artificial intelligence moves from digital products into machines operating around people.
"There's simply not an undo and a retry button," Dolgov said.
The Alphabet subsidiary has logged more than 220 million rider-only miles and now delivers more than 500,000 fully autonomous trips weekly.
Waymo has also faced federal scrutiny over vehicles passing stopped school buses and behaving unexpectedly around traffic controls.
