The Government is phasing out state-contracted commercial accommodation for Ukrainians, with nearly 90 hotel and B&B contracts ending between August and October 2026 including 3 in county Tipperary. The centres were providing accommodation for people from Ukraine that arrived before March 2024. The ending of the contracts is part of a wider withdrawal of state accommodation by March 2027. The Government is also reducing the Accommodation Recognition Payment to €400 from September 1st – approximately 28,000 to 29,000 hosts have been receiving the payment in recognition of hosting between 41,000 and 42,000 people at present. 420 contracts ended in 2024 releasing over 15,000 beds for other uses and 195 accommodation contracts for Ukrainian refugees ended in 2025 releasing nearly 12,000 beds.
