The central midfielder spent the majority of his career with Bradford (Park Avenue), where he had two spells, and Guiseley, where he made 79 appearances across three stints. Both clubs have hailed him for his efforts, with Avenue writing: "We'd like to wish Jamie Spencer all the very best for the future after the midfielder announced his retirement from football. "Many Green Army fans will remember his memorable goals at York City and Scarborough Athletic." At Avenue, Spencer and his teammates performed at a consistently high level for two seasons, recording back-to-back play-off finishes in National League North in 2017-18 and 2018-19. But his second spell was ruined by a dreadful knee injury in September 2023, and his problems persisted after he returned to Guiseley in 2025.
