According to a Facebook post from the Colchester Fire Department, crews responded to the scene after an initial distress call was received by the Coast Guard at around 4:24 p.m. The department says it believes the fire ignited after a lightning strike hit the sailboat’s mast. No injuries were reported and both occupants of the boat remained on board. In addition to the Colchester Fire Department, crews from the Colchester Rescue Squad, Technical Rescue team and Police Department were dispatched to the incident.
