President John Mahama has unveiled a cenotaph in honour of the late Dr Edward Omane Boamah, former Minister for Defence, as part of activities marking the first anniversary of the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians. The memorial was unveiled at the Ministry of Defence on Thursday, August 6, in remembrance of Dr Omane Boamah and the other victims of the tragic incident. Paying tribute to his former aide and confidant, President Mahama described Dr Omane Boamah as “a friend, a younger brother, a loyalist and a close adviser” whose commitment and loyalty remained unquestionable throughout their political journey. “He stood by my side through all the momentous occasions of my political career,” President Mahama said. Dr Edward Omane Boamah was among the eight victims who died when a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crashed in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region on August 6, 2025.
