New longboat for Viking festival takes shape with 'exciting' museum progress

New longboat is coming to fruition at the Maritime Museum in Irvine (Image: Largs Viking Festival)Builders are aiming to have the boat ready to be turned over by late August, a key stage in the construction process as work continues on schedule.
Once completed, the longship will be stored at the Maritime Museum throughout the rest of the year, outwith the festival period.
This is a long-term investment in the festival and in our partnership with the Scottish Maritime Museum, and we can’t wait to welcome volunteer crews aboard.”
This year's Largs Viking Festival takes place between August 29 and September 6, and includes the opening parade, welcoming ceremony, food fair and market, Hakon Hakkonsson lecture, and the Festival of Fire, including the re-enactment of the Battle of Largs, and burning of Viking longship.
