Rachel Gilmour, MP for Tiverton and Minehead, has written to Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds highlighting the case of I Love SNOB Boutique, which she said faces significant new administrative requirements under the European Union's Packaging Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) rules. She said the business had accepted the process as necessary to continue serving customers in Europe, particularly in the Republic of Ireland. Rachel said the new EPR requirements presented a greater challenge than VAT registration, arguing that compliance appeared to require registration in multiple countries, ongoing reporting obligations and substantial additional costs. In the letter, Rachel said she recognised the importance of environmental responsibility but questioned whether the current regime was suitable for businesses exporting relatively small volumes. She asked what practical guidance or assistance was being provided to help affected businesses understand and comply with the new rules.
