Tamil Nadu urges Centre to scrap NEET, restore MBBS admissions based on Class 12 marks

Chennai: Renewing its long-standing opposition to the NEET, the Tamil Nadu Government has recently urged the Centre to abolish the national medical entrance examination and restore MBBS admissions based on Class 12th board examination marks.
According to UNI report, expressing its strong opposition, the Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday urged the central governement to cancel NEET exams and revert back to UG medical admissions based on marks secured in Plus-2 board exams.
"The Government of Tamil Nadu therefore urges the union Government to immediately cancel the NEET examination system and revert to medical education admissions based on the earlier system of Class XII public examination marks", he said.
The clarification comes after MCC introduced several changes to its AIQ counselling process for 2026-27.
