Female councillors across Ireland are continuing to receive harassing phone calls, more than a week after a sinister campaign first emerged. Around 70 female councillors from across the political spectrum have reported receiving repeated and distressing calls from an unknown man. Cllr Nic Mheanman contacted Gardaí after the man, who called from a private number, made alarming comments of a sexual nature and repeatedly attempted to contact her. The organisation is holding a dedicated online security workshop for female councillors. "The overwhelming majority of people engage respectfully with their local councillors every day and value the work they do on behalf of their communities.
