A Wayland man recently had the opportunity to once again compete at the highest level of competitive horseshoe pitching. Steve Miller competed for the second time at the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association’s World Horseshoes Championship in Wausau, Wisconsin, back in July. For the most points, competitors attempt to wrap their shoe around the stake for what is known as a “ringer.” He credits another horseshoe pitcher, Kevin Brekke of Wisconsin, for helping him improve over the years, “Him and I have been communicating back and forth over the years, and he gives me pointers. He also plans to host a tournament during Midwest Old Threshers in September.
