Chippenham Town Council has submitted a planning application for the overhaul of the area around the historic Yelde Hall, including the back of The Shambles. It said: “This proposal aims to create a vibrant setting for residents, visitors and events while preserving the historical value of Yelde Hall and its setting. “When coupled with the integration of modern materials and considered planting, these works will strengthen the connection between the Yelde Hall and its surroundings. Town councillors discussed the plans at a meeting last October, when it was decided to use £50,000 in funding from Wiltshire Council to move the project forward. This funding comes from the Wiltshire Towns Programme and will be granted to the town council over two years.
