The Crammer in Devizes has almost completely dried up this summer, following a similar phenomenon last year, after the Environment Agency confirmed Wiltshire was suffering from drought. The 300-year-old water feature regularly recedes in summer, as rain is its only natural water source, but is believed to be at its lowest level for many years. The Crammer will begin to fill again once rain falls, but Sally Noseda, who runs the Friends of the Crammer Facebook page, told the BBC it was sad to see the pond in this state. Jim Flory, environment manager for the Environment Agency’s Wessex area, said: “Bristol, Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire are in drought, alongside Devon and Cornwall. “The South West faces the same pressures as many other parts of England, which are also in drought.
