“I thought I might as well make an album out of this and continue the project; that’s how it started.” Noting that the album would not have been well-suited for Joon, Kuymizakis explained she instead decided to release the album as Ġiżimina, a project she started while studying in London. “So, from that dissertation, I created Ġiżimina and decided to cover Maltese folk songs with misogynist lyrics,” she said. And so, after a 10-year gap and inspired by her work on the Ritmu festival, Kuymizakis decided to revive the project. While this project involved sampling and reworking existing material, Kuymizakis explained that she was unlikely to employ the same approach for Joon, however.
