St Paul’s Bay Pothole Shatters Triple Ironman Dream
['Dylan Attard']
Lovin Malta
Maltese triathlete James Camilleri has been forced to abandon his dream of competing in his first Triple Ironman after a cycling accident left him with a broken collarbone.
The 31-year-old was training for the gruelling race, due to take place in Austria on 28th August, while also raising funds for Caritas Malta.
During a 180km training ride on Sunday, Camilleri hit a pothole in Triq San Pawl, St Paul’s Bay, just before reaching the 100km mark.
He was thrown from his bike and rushed to Mater Dei Hospital, where X-rays confirmed he had fractured his collarbone.
