DULUTH — It’s never been easy to secure funding for Harm Reduction Sisters, a Duluth-based nonprofit that supports people struggling with addiction. The HIV Prevention grant that had been funding Harm Reduction Sisters’ SSP, along with seven others in the state, was scheduled to end June 30, 2026. MDH has been funding Harm Reduction Sisters’ SSP since 2021, she said, and has consistently funded SSPs around the state since 1998. “Then they said federal funding wasn’t available but they would be using state dollars to fund our work.” Sue Purchase, executive director of Harm Reduction Sisters, stands for a portrait at the organization's office in Duluth on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
