Police and paramedics were called to the B6532 at Congburn Bank in Edmondsley around 1.30am on Wednesday (August 5) after a man in his 40s was hit by a Volkswagen Polo. Durham Police initially arrested two people - a man in his 50s and woman in her 40s - on suspicion of attempted murder. The force has today (August 7) confirmed that Karl Devine, of Viola Crescent, Sacriston, has been charged with Section 18 assault, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance. The woman in her 40s who was arrested in connection with the incident has been released with no further action. The road was closed between the Edmondsley Lane crossroads and Congburn Bank in both directions following the crash earlier this week.
