August 7, 2026 | 1:10 pmWest Mayo Councillors will wait for an exact definition of what a “conflict of interest” is, before providing examples of such at their Municipal District meeting. At a recent meeting of the Westport-Belmullet MD, Councillors were asked by officials to declare whether or not they had a conflict of interest with items on the day’s agenda. Cathaoirleach of the MD, Fianna Fáil’s Brendan Mulroy highlighted that General Municipal Allocation (GMA) funding was the next item on the agenda. GMA funding supports local community projects, which he said they all have an interest in.
