AVONDALE — Craft beer fans rejoice: A popular suburban beer company is opening its first Chicago taproom in the former Metropolitan Brewing space at Rockwell on the River later this year. Phase Three Brewing Company, which launched in 2019 and has taprooms in suburban Lake Zurich and Elmhurst, is coming to the Chicago River with its third taproom, owners announced Wednesday night. The taproom will take over the Metropolitan Brewing spot at 3057 N. Rockwell Ave. in Avondale, which Metropolitan vacated in 2023 amid mounting financial trouble. After Metropolitan shuttered, Ravinia rebranded to Steep Ravine but also closed the Logan Square brewpub it opened with Moor’s Brewing Company last year. Metropolitan Brewing, 3057 N.
