AdvertisementOUT of a target for the year of 562 new social houses, Limerick saw just four completed in the first three months of 2026. Nationally, in the first quarter of the year, 832 new social homes were delivered, which includes 714 new-build homes, 27 acquisitions, and 91 homes delivered through leasing programmes. The number of new-build homes was more than double the corresponding figure during the same period last year, when 351 new-build homes were delivered, the Department said. Minister for Housing, Local Government, and Heritage, James Browne, said: “The strong start to the delivery of new-build social homes in 2026 is very welcome.” “In the first quarter of this year, we built twice as much as the same period last year, a year where we ultimately delivered a record number of new-build social homes.”
