Described by his family as a kind, caring, and popular young man, Matthew Daulby had his whole future ahead of him. His family later said he had been looking forward to going on holiday to Ibiza just days later and could never have imagined that night would be his last. The events that led to Matthew's death began with an earlier altercation, when one lad was assaulted by another, Thomas Dures. He was flown back to the UK to face charges for Matthew's murder. Three other men – James Evans, Alfie Forsyth, and Samuel Hopgood – were also convicted of conspiracy to commit violent disorder in connection with the events leading up to Matthew's death.
