(WPVI) -- Animal control officers with the Monmouth County SPCA responded to an unusual call after a large snake was discovered in a resident's backyard in Freehold, New Jersey. According to the organization, the reptile, identified as an approximately 8-foot-long Burmese python, had taken shelter beneath the floor of a shed. Veterinary staff at the Monmouth County SPCA performed X-rays and determined it had recently eaten a large opossum. "Exotic pets do not belong in the wild," the Monmouth County SPCA said in its social media post.
