Morocco has been working to identify unaccompanied minors for their return home in line with royal directives issued to the Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a Moroccan diplomatic source told Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) on Thursday. The source said Morocco is ready to coordinate with its Spanish and European partners to facilitate the return of unaccompanied minors. The source expressed regret that whenever migration becomes a topic of public debate, Morocco is accused of failing to cooperate or refusing to take back unaccompanied minors, citing the current debate in Spain as an example. According to the source, some political actors use the issue for electoral purposes despite what it described as the reality on the ground. The source also said that if Morocco’s partners want to facilitate the return of unaccompanied minors, they should address the administrative, judicial, and legal obstacles within their own systems that hinder the process.
