I bring it up because I have ambitions to make a high fantasy ttrpg, so I need to give it at least some thought. Would it be better to have the fantasy races have fantasy racial variations like they did with the moon/sun elf biz in older Forgotten Realms products? While high elf rulers remained more or less the same, their subjects divided between light and dark elves. Dark Elves. So you can have a light elf much darker than a light-colored dark elf, etc.
